Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy Analysis

A very interesting editing technique is portrayed in Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy (2005) . When the world is about to get demolished, the shot remains at the same angle but becomes a wider and wider shot each time it cuts to the orchestral non diegetic music.

Taking the shot from this:

This edit was done to the beat in the music something that has been done in many films and is known to be highly effective. This particular time, it created a great deal of suspense which sutured the audience in to the movie, having the shot remain at the same angle and ignoring the 30 degree rule (in which each shot that is juxtaposed should be more than 30 degrees away from the last) which is highly practiced in most mainstream films, reinforces the quirky style that this film is going for.
As the shot zooms further and further back it reveals to the audience more things that are happening to the earth. This sequence also dramatically takes us from the place we have been for the first part of the film  (Earth)  to the next (Space).
