Pace

Pace :
Move or develop (something) at a particular rate or speed

Within the film industry pace refers to how the film is edited together. The pace of the cuts can be set to the beat of the music like in this scene from In the mood for love. The shots are in slow motion which matches the slow pace of the music. The woman's hips and the canister swinging also match the baseline of the music, creating a very pleasing piece of film.

In this trailer for Fallen Angels the pace is quite fast and stylised as to represent the life style of the people within the film. The music also helps to pace this edit, as it also is quite quirky, reflecting the unique shots.

"Pacing refers to the rate at which cuts occur, as in how often per second or minute or hour. this is not another way of saying 'duration of shots' "

Pacing is something you feel while editing the film, its a reflection of your own person feeling toward the footage, the script and the soundtrack of the film you are working on.
